How to create ringtons for the IPHONE4 with Itunes

Hey people, and welcome back to my little corner of the internet! I wanted to share this little tutorial with the world because why should you have to pay for ringtones when you already own the music??? With this tutorial, you can easily take any song from your itunes and choose any 30 to 40 seconds, or less, of it to become a ringtone on your IPHONE4. I don't know if it will work with other Iphones but try it, it just might!

Step 1: You need to make sure AAC ENCODING is activated under your itunes settings. So click on EDIT, and then down the list click on PREFERENCES and you should see this:

Click on the IMPORT SETTINGS button (left window) and a new window (right) will appear. Make sure the top slot has AAC Encoder selected!

STEP 2: Choose the song you want. Listen to it and when you find the 40 second piece you want, you must note the start and stop times of the song to use. Next, right click on the song you chose, and click GET INFO:

Under the options tab, make sure start and stop time boxes are checked. Then change the times to what you want, for example, my stop time is 24 seconds in, so that should be typed 0:24. Click OK and then right click on the song again and select CREAT AAC VERSION

Now you'll see the newly created shorter song appear there. Now the file type needs to be changed before your Iphone can see it as a ringtone. To do this, you need to locate the "hard" file on your computer which should be under my documents>my music>Itunes>Itunes media>music

Find the file and right click on it and choose RENAME. The name should show something like this:

Now if the .m4a doesn't appear, you need to locate your folder options. This is under Tools>folder options
Or, with windows 7 like mine, I just used the help (blue circle ? icon) and search folder options to open window up:

Click on the VIEW tab and make sure the box next to HIDE EXTENTIONS OF KNOWN FILE TYPES is UNCHECKED***

Now you should see the song with the m4a extention next to it. Change the "a" to an "r" so now you have this:

Now click enter and select yes to change the file extension. Now you must go into your itunes and delete the original short song file. Then just add the new created file into your itunes like any other song except it will now be under tones instead of music! Ta Da! Sync your iphone and find the new ringtone on your list!!

Thanks to ehow.com and all the other people out there sharing this info!!!
